Prepared for Xmas ???

With many companies and businesses already employing extra staff for the (expected) Xmas rush, it may be prudent to take a moment and see what steps have been made to ensure, not only the safety of the employee but the safety of the public who may be interacting with them.

In these cost aware times some companies may be tempted to overlook the safety issues that surround temporary staff, in particular;

Induction - Has the employee had a safety brief? What to do in the event of a fire? What are their responsibilities?

DSE - Did the employee get a proper assessment of their desk? Is the screen the correct height? Is the chair set correctly?

Manual Handling - Has the staff member lifting loads? Have they been trained? Do they know the risks?

Risk Assessment - Are there any hazards in the working area? Are members of the public at risk? What about slips and trips?

Fire Evacuation - Do staff know the evacuation plan and meeting points? Are they trained to use equipment such as Evac Chairs?

Most businesses will be aware they are strict penalties now for non compliance with current Health and Safety laws and pleading ignorance or a lack of funding for training will not be any form of defence.

Make sure you have taken all the necessary steps not only to protect your staff and your customers, but your company and its hard built reputation.

If you would like guidance on any of the issues above, or just some sound advice, then please feel free to contact us on;

07 October 2009

Major distribution opportunity at world leading Assistive Technology event

UK based companies Environmental Handling Systems and sister company Evacusafe UK who manufacture an innovative evacuation chair for mobility impaired people, is looking to source new distributors at this year’s Rehacare exhibition, in Dusseldorf, Germany (14th-17th October, 2009)
At the event, which is the premier international exhibition for assistive technologies, Evacusafe will be showcasing their Evacusafe chair - the latest in emergency escape chairs and their new Ambulance / Transit Chair.

The Evacusafe chair has been specially designed to help people in wheelchairs, Injuries, pregnancy or who have mobility problems, get out of buildings quickly and easily. It offers a simple, reliable and practical solution by being lightweight and running on a friction controlled track.

Evacusafe can be manoeuvred down stairs easily and smoothly in an emergency, and can be controlled by one or two people. There is no heavy lifting and once the chair has been used it can be moved quickly to a place of safety away from the emergency.

Easy to use and set up, each Evacusafe chair comes with arm rests, a seat belt, a cushioned head rest and brakes for ultimate safety and comfort. It also has sturdy hooks, a highly visible overhead sign and a protective cover.

Everyone who buys an Evacusafe chair is given a comprehensive training manual and CD to show them how to set up and operate the chair. Full training packages can also be supplied including ‘train the trainer’, which allows companies to cascade the training down to their employees.

The Evacusafe chair is currently sold in the UK direct by the company, Evacusafe would like to use the Rehacare show as a platform to source international distributors. Following last years show the company has now got distributors in place in the Netherlands, Israel, Dubai and New Zealand.

Paul Mitchell, Director of Evacusafe, said: “We are seeking distributors for Europe in particular France, Germany, Italy, Spain,Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland who can not only distribute the chair but also supply the training packages in different languages. We are keen to use the event to meet with international companies. It maybe that a certain distributor has interests in more than one country or is capable of servicing multiple territories. We are also looking to discuss partnerships in the USA, Canada and South America.

The Evacusafe chair meets all current UK / EEC Fire Safety Regulations and Disability Discrimination legislation. It also helps organisations meet their duty of care in risk assessments and emergency evacuation procedures.

Evacusafe sell their Evacuation chair to a large number of organisations across the UK including hotels, hospitals, government buildings, banks, office blocks, schools, colleges, universities, fire equipment companies, ambulance and emergency services and health and safety organisations.
